Christina LloydWhen and where were you born?
August 13 in Downers Grove, Illinois

Where did you go to school?
I attended Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey as an undergraduate, Rider University for my Masters, and I am currently a Doctoral Candidate in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Kent State University.

How many siblings do you have?
I have two older brothers, making me the youngest and only girl.

What are some of your hobbies/interests?
Reading, exercising, yoga, teaching, and doing research

Before working at YIS, what was the most unusual or interesting jobs you’ve had?
I worked at Rita’s Water Ice for my first job and loved it!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was younger, I wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher.

People would be surprised if they knew what about you?
I took piano lessons until I was 17 and played the cello.

Best place you’ve ever visited? What’s your dream vacation?
The best place I’ve ever visited was Italy! My dream vacation would be traveling to different countries and spending days on the beach.

How do you define success?
Success is the attainment or accomplishment of a goal, task, or challenge by an individual. Success can be defined by the individual who sets the goal and is unique to their own personal experience.

If you could switch jobs with anyone in YIS, whose job would it be and why?
I would switch jobs with Dr. MiQuita Hosey because I’ve always been interested in the use of medication in treatment.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?
To be the light in a world full of darkness.

Name a situation that has made you a stronger person?
Continuing to progress in my education as a woman of color occupying spaces that are often filled with faces that are different than my own. Having to advocate for myself at different levels and navigating power dynamics professionally.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve is when I can hear people chew or when people don’t say thank you after you hold the door open for them.

Where is your favorite place to be and doing what?
One of my favorite places to be is at the Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois. I grew up going to the pier in the summertime. I enjoy walking around the pier, sightseeing with family and friends. Another favorite place to be is on the beach (anywhere) but especially down at the shore when I’m home in New Jersey.

If you had one superpower, what would it be and why?
If I had a superpower I would want it to be invisibility or to fly. With a combination of those I could travel independently and discover things without being seen. I could get places quickly, explore the world, accomplish tasks, and help others.

A movie or show your embarrassed to admit that you watch?
Any chick flick, holiday movie on Hallmark, and The Voice

Something you would like for people to know about you. Characteristics?
I actually enjoy going to school and being in the student role. I believe in being a lifelong learner both in the classroom and the real world.

Dancing, listening to music, and baking

Before working at YIS, what was the most unusual or interesting jobs you’ve had?
I was a newspaper carrier.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher

That I was shy in school

Best place you’ve ever visited? What’s your dream vacation?
The best place I’ve ever visited was Sedona, Arizona. My dream vacation would be to go to Italy, as I have always desired to go!

Do you have any hidden talents?
Baking

How do you define success?
Making a difference in the lives of children.

What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear would be something happening to my daughter.

Where is your favorite place to be and doing what?
My parents’ pool, swimming

To look into the future
